Dave Bird PhD, BSc (Hons) Running coach  www.wellpaced.com

Profile:

I offer a personalised coaching service for novice and more experienced runners. I will help you to achieve challenging goals effectively and safely, whilst boosting your health and general wellbeing. You will benefit from my twenty years experience as an elite club runner covering (many miles of) track, road and cross-country. I passionately believe that running should be enjoyed rather than endured so you will get lots of encouragement and mentoring from me and you won’t waste your valuable time on boring, fruitless training. I use a client-centred approach where we agree a programme that suits your needs, so you won’t be nagged into following prescriptive, unrealistic schedules! My aim is to develop you as an empowered athlete beyond just better race performances.

Expertise:

Smarter goals agreed with client based on their aspirations, abilities and experience with resources identified to overcome any barriers to training. Design of unique training programmes based on proven strategies in order to meet these goals. Coaching of specific sessions within this programme such as fartlek, intervals, hills and use of health and wellbeing tools. Progress checks and performance reviews with re-setting of goals and changes to schedule as required. Advice on race tactics.

Experience:

The coaching strategies I use have helped me to achieve personal bests ranging from 3mins 46s for 1500m to 65mins for 1/2M. They have also led to competitive performances such as victory in the prestigious Hog’s Back Road Race in 1990, British Miler Club track wins in 1991 and more recently 1st veteran in the 2004 Bristol 1/2M. In my coaching role I have helped clients run faster race times in events such as the Bristol 1/2M and 10K and the Bath 1/2M.
