Gareth’s amazing performance at the London Marathon

Many of you will know that our fabulous Physiotherapist Gareth Crankshaw has been training for the London Marathon. We are delighted to say that he completed the race on Sunday 2nd October in an amazing time of 3 hours and 6 minutes!

This was an extra-special day for Gareth as he was racing in memory of his late father, who died of cancer 3 years ago – and in support of the charity Children with Cancer, for which he has already raised over £2000.

I know that you will join us in congratulating Gareth on his brilliant run at his first ever London Marathon. There is still time to support Gareth in his fundraising for Children with Cancer – you can visit his Just Giving page to donate.

New Supervised Gym Rehabilitation sessions available at KJP

Keith James Physiotherapy is pleased to announce a new initiative starting this Autumn – Supervised Gymnasium Rehabilitation with our Sports Therapist, Kate Stone.

Following assessment with one of Physiotherapy Team, patients will have the option to purchase blocks of continued rehabilitation in our modern, spacious, and airy gymnasium.

Research suggests that continuing rehabilitation exercises consolidates recovery following injury or surgery – and improves confidence, general well-being, mobility, balance, strength, and power.

Our Supervised Gymnasium Rehabilitation sessions are designed to be relaxed and friendly and are tailored to the needs of each patient. Kate will help you maximise your mental and physical potential following your physiotherapy treatment, allowing you to return to a more full and active life. Individual, specific exercises, set by your physiotherapist and monitored by Kate, are a sure way of achieving your goals.

How does it work?
Sessions run twice weekly for up to 1 hour with a charge of £20 per session. You can attend once or twice weekly depending on your personal goals and aims. Kate will be there to monitor, supervise, motivate, and reassure – helping you to achieve your goal of a more active, physical, pain-free life.

To find out more – or to book yourself in for a block of Supervised Gym Rehabilitation sessions, please call Reception on (0117) 330 6820.

Sara is back!

Our fabulous physiotherapist Sara Ayala is back at Keith James Physiotherapy from 3rd October. Sara has been on maternity leave after the birth of her daughter Naia, in March. She is looking forward to reconnecting with her KJP patients – old and new.

Sara’s diary is now open, so contact the clinic to get yourself booked in. You can call on (0117) 330 6820 or book online at our website.

Farewell to Kirstie & Katherine

Two of our fabulous team are moving on from KJP and we want to take this opportunity to wish them well.

Kirstie Guy, our Massage Therapist is leaving our clinic to study Physiotherapy. We have loved working with her for last few years and wish her every success in her studies.

We are also saying goodbye to one of our Physio team, Katherine Hills. Katherine gave birth to her second child at the end of last year and is going to be very busy indeed keeping up with two little ones.

We will miss Kirstie and Katherine, but it has been great to have the chance to work with them and get to know them during their time at Keith James Physiotherapy.

Our Physio Gareth is is running the London Marathon to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK

Our amazing Physio Gareth is running the London Marathon in October and we would love it if you could join us in supporting him in raising funds for the charity Children with Cancer UK. Gareth explains his motivation for this fundraising challenge on his  ‘Just Giving’ page:

“I will be running in memory of my father who sadly passed away 3 years ago from a melanoma that metastasized in his brain. Upon diagnosis he was told he had only 6 months left to live. Losing a family member is the hardest thing one can experience and having a time limit on life makes you cherish every second.

Having been through this and experiencing the devastation a loss brings to a family, I am honoured to be raising funds for Children with Cancer UK, where they actively raise and invest money for vital specialist research to save the lives of every child with cancer and to keep their family together.

My hope is that I can contribute to help loved ones get more time together and with research that can result in better outcomes for many.”

Gareth would be delighted if you were able to support him and the Children with Cancer charity by donating. Your money will help fund research, support families and raise awareness. Even a small donation helps (see below). To visit Gareth’s ‘Just Giving’ page click here. Alternatively, you can make a donation at the clinic. Thank you so much for you support.

£5 – Fund laboratory equipment as part of vital research into the biology of childhood leukaemia.

£10 –  Fund research into understanding the genetics of heart failure after treatment for childhood cancer.

£25 – Help fund essential blood tests to monitor the effectiveness of therapy in a ground-breaking immunotherapy trial for children with relapsed leukaemia.

£50 – Help purchase laboratory equipment to support development of scientific techniques for the treatment of children with chemotherapy- resistant sarcomas.

£100 – Fund a week’s supply of the day-to-day research equipment for the development of a supply of donated ‘ready to go’ cells, for transfusion into young patients.

£250 – Fund the development of new MRI scanning techniques for more accurate diagnosis of young patients with specific brain tumours.

Congratulations Gareth on your amazing performance at the Brighton Marathon

Our amazing Physio Gareth Crankshaw has just taken part in his first ever marathon – and he smashed it! Gareth ran the Brighton Marathon on 2nd April and he finished the race in the fantastic time of 2 hours and 57 minutes. This means that Gareth was 148th runner to finish of the 8397 runners that took part in the race that day.

This isn’t the only race that Gareth will be running. On 2nd October he will be running The London Marathon. Gareth will be raising money for the charity Children with Cancer at this race. Watch this space to find out how you can support his fundraising activities.

Gareth will be following his training schedule over the next few months to allow him to recover from the Brighton race and prepare for the London Marathon. Gareth and his colleagues at Keith James Physiotherapy have a great deal of experience of helping runners to prepare and recover from all sorts of races – from Parkruns to ultramarathons.

If you are thinking of running a race this year, why not contact us to see how we can help you to achieve your goal. We can provide physiotherapy, massage and personal training to get you in the best shape to meet your challenge.

Updated Covid-19 Advice for Patients (April 2022)

Here at Keith James Physiotherapy, we maximise the safety of our patients and staff by following ongoing advice given from Public Health England and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy following the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Please do not come into the clinic if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. The recently updated list of symptoms includes:

  • a high temperature or shivering (chills) – a high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
  • shortness of breath
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • an aching body
  • a headache
  • a sore throat
  • a blocked or runny nose
  • loss of appetite
  • diarrhoea
  • feeling sick or being sick

We continue to take measures to protect our staff and patients at the clinic, including:

  • We ask you to arrive at your appointment time and not any earlier.
  • Patients should come to their appointment alone (unless they are a child or require a carer).
  • Please use the hand sanitiser to and from entry to the clinic.
  • Please minimise your contact with handrails and furniture.
  • Please wear appropriate clothing for your appointment. Patients with upper limb issues should wear a vest top and patients with lower limb issues should wear loose fitting shorts.
  • We have staggered our appointment times to reduce waiting room traffic.
  • Staff ensure all clinic areas are cleaned regularly with disinfectant and between patients.

As always, you can be reassured we are staying up to date with advice and guidance on best practice. Should you have any concerns or queries, please contact us on (0117) 330 6820 or email [email protected] for more information.

New additions to the KJP Team

We are excited to announce a number of new additions to the team at Keith James Physiotherapy.

We have three new Physiotherapists: Will Adams, who joined us in December 2021, and Agnés Canadell and Zaheer Hussain, who have just taken up posts at our clinic. Agnés will be taking over from Giles Head and will be working on Tuesdays and Fridays. Zaheer will be with us for the next 6 months to provide maternity cover for Katherine and Sara, who are on leave until later this year. You can find out all about our three new Physios here.

We can also announce two new additions of a different kind. Katherine and Sara’s babies are the youngest additions to the KJP Team. Katherine’s baby, Freddie, was born on 24th December and Sara’s little girl, Naia, arrived more recently, on 7th March. We wish them both many congratulations.

Along with the arrival of new faces at Keith James Physiotherapy, we have said ‘Farewell’ to a much-loved colleague, Giles Head. After many years at KJP, Giles has now moved on to a consultancy-based role.

Giles became part of the KJP team back in 2000, when he first joined services with Keith as Head Academy Physio at Bristol Rugby Club. Over the following 22 years, Giles was a loyal and experienced physiotherapist who made an enormous contribution to the clinic. He provided effective and reassuring physiotherapy to the many patients who came to see him and he was a real pleasure to work with. Keith is still very much in contact with Giles, both professionally and socially – and we would all like to take the opportunity to wish him well in his new ventures.

If you would like to book an appointment to see any of our team, please call the clinic on (0117) 330 6820, email [email protected] or book online at www.keithjamesphysiotherapy.co.uk.
